Per message, Twilio and CCX are close. The bill is another story
On a utility message, Twilio's total and our all-in price land in the same place; on marketing, Twilio comes in a little lower. The difference shows up around the message: inbound messages billed too, a fee for failed messages, and an inbox sold apart.
Twilio is an excellent messaging API and a market standard. It is also an API: what you get is the channel, and everything that makes support happen — inbox, queues, reporting — is bought separately or built by you. For a team with engineering to spare, that is freedom. For an operation that has to answer customers tomorrow, that is scope.
The price per message, side by side
Twilio passes through the Meta rate and adds its own per-message fee. For a utility template to a US number, the Meta rate is $0.0034 and the Twilio fee is $0.005, $0.0084 in total; CCX's all-in price for the same message is US$0.0084, on every plan. On marketing, Twilio's total comes in a little below ours. Neither of us can send marketing templates to US numbers: Meta doesn't deliver them.
Twilio also adds $0.001 for each message that ends in a Failed status. The volume discount its page mentions applies to the Meta rate, at high volume, not to Twilio's $0.005. On the other side, Twilio charges no monthly platform fee for the API, while our plans start at US$39 a month. That is why an honest comparison doesn't stop at the unit price.

When Twilio is the right call
- You operate in many countries and want a single API for all of them, on one consolidated invoice.
- Your team has the engineering to build and maintain the inbox, the reporting and the automation on top of the API.
- You already use Twilio voice, email or video and want everything under one contract.
When CCX is the right call
- You want an AI agent that answers from your catalog and knowledge base in the same inbox as your team, billed per interaction from US$0.02.
- You need the platform with it: multi-agent inbox, routing, reporting and automation included in the monthly fee, instead of a separate Flex contract.
- Your inbound volume is high — we do not bill for messages you receive, and Twilio bills those at the same per-message fee.
- You want no setup fee and no extra charge when a message ends in a Failed status.
About moving off Twilio
Want the math on your own volume? Talk to us and we will compare it with your current invoice.
Does Twilio bill for messages you receive?
Yes. The $0.005 per-message fee applies inbound or outbound, in Twilio's own wording. In a support thread where the customer sends five messages and you answer with five, that is ten charges. CCX charges for the five you send.
Do I need Twilio Flex to get an inbox?
For a ready-made conversational inbox, yes — Flex is the Twilio agent product and it is contracted separately from the messaging API. The alternative is to build your own. At CCX the inbox is part of the platform and comes with the monthly fee.
How does moving the number work?
The number is yours and stays yours: what changes is which platform answers for it at Meta. You connect it through Meta's own signup flow, and we walk through the migration with you.
Does the Twilio fee drop with volume?
Twilio's page lists $0.005 per message, inbound or outbound. The volume discount it mentions applies to the Meta rate, at high volume. CCX publishes one all-in price per message: US$0.0084 for a utility template to a US number, on every plan.
